Cloth moths are famous for their ability to ruin wool clothing but they are also attracted to a variety of other natural materials such as silk, hair, fur and feathers. Moths vary dramatically in appearance and size depending on the species. Most indoor species are smaller than 2 cm wingspan and are of grey or brown color. They avoid light and that is why they are usually found in dark places like closets, attics or basements.
Prevention tips
- Moths are attracted to soiled fabric, so laundering or dry cleaning clothing before placing it in extended storage is a must.
- Regularly and thoroughly vacuum the closet. These species like dark places such as corners, baseboards, edges of carpets, under furniture, etc.
- Ironing the clothing kills moth eggs and larvae.
- Place repellent sachets in your wardrobe or a closet to keep these pests away.
